Echo and The Bunnymen - NASA astronaut taking 'Ocean Rain' album to Space

15 SONGS THAT HAVE OBSESSED ME THE MOST OF 2009 (so far and according to the play counts of my itunes)

This has been a very good year in the music's world, at least for me, and to celebrate it I want to share with you my list of the 15 songs that have obsessed me the most so far. I think all the "best songs" lists can't be 100% objective and I don't want to do that actually (and of course I'm not an expert in music...), so I've decided to go ahead of that using the play count of my itunes and just follow my unconscious (responsible for... "hey that song is so goood!! play it once again!!"). Hope you enjoy it!

1.... SUMMERTIME CLOTHES (52 play counts)
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE
Merriweather Post Pavilion

"And I want to walk around with you
Just you"

I don't have words to describe this song and the things it moves within me everytime I hear it, it's pure magic!!!! Animal Collective is one of the bands that keeps evolving, and I think they've reached a very high level with this album. Just love it!!! (and I dedicated it to my boy :D....corny!)

2....THE CALCULATION (43 play counts)
REGINA SPEKTOR
Far

"So we made the hard decision
And we each made an incision
Past our muscles and our bones
Saw our hearts were little stones"

I love her and I love this album!!! With original tunes, but keeping her simplicty and good lyrics, she has managed to bring us a production worth to hear it from beginning to end whether it is a shinny or cloudy day :D . The calculation has all the ingredients to make it a very enjoyable song.

3....BROTHERSPORT (41 play counts)
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE
Merriweather Post Pavillion

Very rythmic song, I can't help but dance whenever I hear it! Animal collective 2 out of 15!

4... FRENCH NAVY (36 play counts)
CAMERA OBSCURA
My Maudlin Career

"you with your dietary restriction
said you love me with a lot of conviction
I was waiting to be struck by lightning
waiting for somebody exciting like you
oh, the things that you do
you make me go woo-oo-oo
with the things that you do, you do, you do"

A very fresh and sticky sound is Camera Obscura's best characteristic, and what better example than this french navy... puts me in a great mood everytime I hear it!

5.....TWO WEEKS (34 play counts)
GRIZZLY BEAR
Veckatimest

"would you always?
maybe sometimes?
make it easy?
take your time...."

Very soft , easy-listening tune, I have very good memories with this song....

6......ANTI-ORGASM (31 play counts)
SONIC YOUTH
The Eternal

A very nice album, they rock! This song is pretty amazing!

7...SOUTHEN POINT (30 play counts)
GRIZZLY BEAR
Veckatimest

I get goose bumps with this one! Like animal collective, grizzly bear has managed to make 2 out of 15 on my list . Thumbs up!

8......DULL LIFE (29 play counts)
YEAH YEAH YEAHS
It's Blitz!

This album has disappointed me a little, something is missing. Still, dull life is a good song, catchy and full of surprises and good rythm. I love the album's cover!!!!

9 HELP I'M ALIVE (ACOUSTIC VERSION) (22 play counts)
METRIC
Fantasies

"I get wherever I'm going
I get whatever I need
While my blood's still flowing
And my heart still beats...
Beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer"

Nice and sweet! that's all I am gonna say about this one (and yeah , I prefer the acoustic version)

10....SOMETHING IS SQUEEZING MY SKULL (17 play counts)
MORRISSEY
Years Of Refusal

What can I say about this man!! everything he does is remarkable! :D . Nice guitars in this song and the ending is very explosive .

11... TWO PLANETS (16 play counts)
BAT FOR LASHES
Two Suns

With this album I came to know her, and I have to say I like what she's doing (Tomacito Yorke likes her, that gives her more points!) .This song creates a mysthical atmosphere, niiiiice!

12....THE RAKE'S SONG (15 play counts)
THE DECEMBERISTS
The Hazards Of Love

After 4 times of listening to this rock opera album I came to like it very much, specially this song. The album has details, but it's not so bad overall.

13....SINCE WE'VE BEEN WRONG (14 play counts)
THE MARS VOLTA
Octahedron

"Since we've been wrong
I've been part awake
Since we've been wrong
you will never, ever know me
What took you so long?
I'm not sure either way
But my heart, it asks
just one more time
Are you still a mess?"

This album left me with a weird look on my face the first time I heard it... it doesn't give considerable surprises, different, I mean , it's nice that they're experimenting, but I didn't enjoy this effort that much. To look on the bright side... the vocals are beautiful (all the songs are pretty much reserved, we couldn't expect it otherwise :P). Nevertheless, I liked "since we've been wrong", specially the nice lyrics made me listen to it 14 times (notice that it's just a month since the release of the album).

14....SEA WITHIN A SEA (13 play counts)
THE HORRORS
Primary Colours

Really beautiful song, even though I'm not much into the Horrors, this song is magnifiscent! Thanks for the recommendation Rod :D

15....FITZ & DIZZY SPELLS (12 play counts)
ANDREW BIRD
Noble Beast

Great song from a great artist :D

SPECIAL MENTION:

WALLS ARE TIRED (40 play counts)
RUSSIAN RED
I Love Your Glasses

"Walls are tired, of holding the same old ceilings
words have found their way to stay in
and they don't let out feelings"

40 play counts!!!! this song should be my number 4 along with french navy , but unfortunately, this song was released a year ago, so it can't compete . Still I can give it a special mention (it's my list and I can do whatever I want here...) because I discovered this girl this year and I think she has something, though I think she needs to find her own self . The album is Ok, though it's a little weird at times. Walls are tired is a very melancholic song, it came very handy for me this year :P. Two more songs that I find interesting of this album are "They don't believe" and "Cigarrettes".

FAVOURITE ALBUM SO FAR:

MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION!!!!!!!

Nothing more to say!!!!!!!!!

------

This was just the list for the first half of the year (I blame the vacations for my delay on publishing it..), and for the second part of the year obviously I'm gonna order the new releases the same way as I did with this ones plus I'll give another chance to other albums already released on this year (like Röysopp's Junior or The Gossip's Music for men) that couldn't make it to my top 15 (maybe I need more time with them...)

Cheers!
